In September 2024, Shakira found herself at the center of an uncomfortable incident while performing at LIV nightclub in Miami. As she danced to her then-new single “Soltera,” she noticed an audience member attempting to record beneath her skirt. After realizing what was happening, she adjusted her outfit, gestured for the person to stop, and chose to leave the stage rather than continue under those circumstances.
Fans quickly rallied behind her online, criticizing the disrespectful behavior and stressing the importance of treating performers with dignity and respect. Many praised Shakira for standing up for herself and refusing to tolerate such conduct.
The incident came shortly after the singer relocated from Barcelona to Miami with her sons, Sasha and Milan, following her highly publicized separation from former football star Gerard Piqué.
Despite the unpleasant experience, Shakira remained focused on her career. She officially released “Soltera” later that month and continued preparations for her highly anticipated “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour,” which began in Rio de Janeiro in February 2025.
During the Colombian leg of the tour, fellow Colombian superstar Karol G publicly expressed her admiration for Shakira, praising both her influence on Latin music and the pride she has brought to their shared homeland.
Born on February 2, 1977, in Barranquilla, Colombia, Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll comes from a multicultural background. Her father, William Mebarak Chadid, is of Lebanese heritage, while her mother, Nidia Ripoll Torrado, has Spanish roots. Shakira displayed artistic talent at an early age, writing songs and performing as a child. At just 13 years old, she signed with Sony Music Colombia and released her debut album, *Magia*, in 1991.
